What a Vacation!

We had a wonderful time in Regensburg.  The Linders were great hosts and had a “grillfest” for us on Friday night.  All of our closest friends from Regensburg were there.  I was such a joy to see everyone again.  It was also nice for me (DeAnn) to spend an entire evening not feeling like I was making cultural fax paus at every turn.  The sun even came out and it was “hot” on Friday.  The kids swam and we didn’t even need to put on a sweater until the sun went down.  We ended up staying later on Saturday and grilling one more time with the Linders.  The weather was beautiful and we knew it would be awhile before we saw each other again.

In the late afternoon we left for Reit im Winkl.  We arrived around 8 pm.  Lena was playing outside and came over to see Cali.  It was amazing that after a time away, they didn’t miss a beat and their friendship took right off like we hadn’t been away.  Philipp came out to play, too.  He and Colson played with his bow and arrow for a bit and then decided to shoot some goals with a soccer ball.  I was upstairs unpacking and making beds when the buzzer rang.  Cam went to get it and came rushing back saying Colson was hurt.  He came in holding his arm and was white as a sheet and felt nauseous.  I had him run cold water over it because we didn’t have any ice.  He laid down with it on a pillow.  Long story short, after having the pain keep him up Saturday night and not enjoying our hike very much on Sunday (for those of you who, at this point, are wondering why we didn’t go right to a doctor, please remember we are in an Alpine village and unless it is a super emergency there is really nothing that can be done on a Sunday) we took him to the doctor Monday morning.  Yes, it is broken and he has a cast.  He didn’t even get to go down the waterslide yet.  We did have lunch at the indoor pool restaurant though (great schnitzel.)

Poor Colson! I think he should get to eat all the schnitzl he wants since he doesn’t get to swim.

That stinks for you, Cole!! I’m so sorry. Well, what are the positives?? 1)You get extra attention from your Mom, 2)Your sisters will have to clean your room for you, 3)You don’t have to have as many baths with a cast (say “it’s just too difficult”–you should use that one a lot!), 4)It makes for a good baseball bat, and 5)You can gross everyone out with the smell of it!! See, lots of positives to a cast!

Just got back from the doctor with Colson. Half of his thumb is numb and tingly so the doctor wanted to take another x-ray, but the developer wasn’t working so we have to wait until we get back to Cyprus to have it looked at again. We leave on Monday so it won’t be that long. Colson has been a trooper. It has been disappointing to not be able to go to the pool, but he had the top kid score at mini golf last night.

I am glad you guys had a great trip but what a story for Cole. I know how it is Cole. This is what you should have done and what Nay Nay did. I broke my nose on the water slide and it bled like crazy in the water. So they had to shut down everything and no one could ride the water slides because the water was circulating through out the all the water slides with my blood in it. So remember next time if you are going to ruin the fun for your self ruin it for every one else too!!! Well take care of and milk it for all you can Cole! Love you guys!

    Hi Family —
Just caught up with your last blog. What an amazing adventure in service for our Lord. I was especially touched by your tribute to our beloved grandmother. We miss her so much but know that she’s tilling God’s garden now 🙂 Hope Colson is healing quickly and look forward to reading more about your service opportunities. We’ll be thinking of you all while in Bishop this year..it’s just a week away.
    Love to you all,
    Jackie Carter

Just got home. We’ll take Colson to the doctor and see how things are going tomorrow. It’s hot here and humid, too.

The doctor in Cyprus said that Colson should be able to get the cast off on Aug. 3rd. Colson said his thumb is better too. Thank you for all your prayers.

I was just looking through yur pictures and it really hit me that Chris is nearly as grey as I am–only upside down! If this keeps up he is going to have to shave the goatee so he will look youthful like his wife.

Who says I am not colouring to get grey? Actually I am going for the “distinguished” Sean Connery look…hmmm…should I consider the grey ponytail as well?
